Girona Costa Brava Airport (IATA: GRO) is located approximately 11 km south of Girona city and 90 km north of Barcelona. It is primarily a low-cost airport served by Ryanair, with routes to destinations across the UK, Ireland, mainland Europe and beyond. Despite its name, the airport is not in Barcelona — many first-time travellers are surprised to find it requires a transfer to reach Barcelona city or BCN airport.
A private transfer from GRO to BCN is the most reliable option for passengers with onward long-haul flights. The public bus service (Sagalés) runs from GRO to Barcelona Estació del Nord, but does not go directly to BCN airport — passengers then need a second connection. A private transfer goes directly between the two airports without any intermediate stops.
Approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes via the AP-7 motorway south to Barcelona. Journey time depends on traffic. In summer, allow extra time for potential congestion around Barcelona.
Yes — your driver meets you in the arrivals area at Girona Airport with a name board. Provide your flight number when booking so we can track it and be ready if your flight is early or delayed.
We recommend at least 2.5 to 3 hours between your GRO arrival and your BCN departure time. Allow more for intercontinental long-haul flights with longer check-in and security requirements. If in doubt, contact us on WhatsApp and we will help you plan the timing.
Yes — we operate 24 hours a day. Ryanair often operates early morning departures from Girona. Book your transfer in advance and your driver will be at GRO ready for your arrival regardless of the time.
