Private transfer from Barcelona to Vic — a historic Catalan city with one of the finest medieval old towns in the region. Plaça Major, the cathedral, traditional markets, outstanding Romanesque art and authentic Catalan gastronomy. Approximately 1 hour from Barcelona.
Vic is a city of approximately 45,000 inhabitants in the Osona comarca, approximately 70 km north of Barcelona in the Plana de Vic — a flat agricultural plain ringed by mountains. Its old town is one of the best-preserved medieval centres in Catalonia, built on the site of a Roman settlement (Ausa), with visible Roman temple remains in the Plaça de la Pietat.
The city's cultural highlight is the Museu Episcopal de Vic, which houses one of the world's most important collections of Romanesque and Gothic art from Catalonia. The large market square (Plaça Major), the Gothic cathedral with its Romanesque bell tower, and the traditional embotit (cured meats) culture make Vic a rewarding day trip from Barcelona for visitors interested in authentic Catalan life beyond the tourist trail.
Approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes depending on traffic. Vic is approximately 70 km north of Barcelona via the C-17 road through the Congost gorge.
Vic is known for its remarkably well-preserved medieval old town centred on the large Plaça Major, its Gothic cathedral, the Museu Episcopal de Vic (one of Catalonia's finest collections of Romanesque and Gothic art), traditional markets, and its local food culture — particularly its cold meats (embotits) and the Mercat de Vic, one of Catalonia's most traditional markets.
Vic has markets on Tuesday and Saturday mornings in Plaça Major. There are also seasonal markets including a medieval market (Mercat Medieval) in December which attracts visitors from across Catalonia.
