L'Ametlla de Mar is a small fishing town in the southern Costa Daurada, approximately 140 km from Barcelona near the Terres de l'Ebre region. It is one of the least commercialised destinations on the Costa Daurada, with a working fishing harbour, a series of small coves with unusually clear water, and an atmosphere that genuinely reflects its fishing heritage rather than serving purely as a tourist resort.
The town is known locally for its red prawns (gambes vermelles) — among the most prized in Catalonia, served in the handful of restaurants surrounding the harbour. Diving and snorkelling are popular in the surrounding coves, which benefit from relatively clean and clear water at this distance from the larger resort areas to the north.
The Delta de l'Ebre natural reserve, one of Spain's most important wetland ecosystems and home to over 300 bird species, begins approximately 25 km south. Given the limited public transport links, a private transfer is the most practical way to reach L'Ametlla de Mar from Barcelona or the airport.

Public transport is very limited. The journey requires a train to Tortosa or Cambrils followed by an infrequent connecting bus that does not serve all areas of the town or surrounding coves. A private transfer is the most practical option for visitors with luggage.
