Begur is a hilltop town in the Baix Empordà region, approximately 120 km northeast of Barcelona. It sits inland at around 200 metres altitude, with sweeping views of the Costa Brava coastline and the Pyrenees on clear days. The town itself has an attractive historic centre with a ruined 11th-century castle, and a character that mixes Catalan heritage with a distinctive Cuban colonial architectural influence — brought back by Catalans who emigrated to Cuba in the 19th century.
The coves surrounding Begur are consistently ranked among the finest on the entire Costa Brava: Aiguablava, with its turquoise water and the landmark Parador hotel; Sa Tuna, a tiny fishing cove with a handful of houses; Aiguafreda; Fornells; and Platja Fonda (accessible only on foot or by boat). The Camí de Ronda coastal path connects them all.
A private transfer is particularly well suited to Begur, as accommodation is spread between the hilltop town and multiple separate coves — a driver who can navigate directly to your specific villa or hotel saves significant time and difficulty, especially with luggage.
